Studs, studs, studs…

If you are one of those people who think studs belong in the 90s with snap bangles and big hair, then I’ll give you a running start to look away now….

A few days ago, I came across the below image on Pinterest that stopped me dead in my tracks. Shall we marvel a little?

Well this one little image seems to have spawned an obsession in me. If you had asked me before I saw this coat whether I liked things blinged with studs, I would have been totally ambivalent about  the whole topic. But this is where I am at right now…

My favourite small spaces…

On Monday, I blogged about sacrificing space for the love of living in the city. It’s been on my mind ever since so I thought I would run some more small spaces by you again today. I am constantly on the look-out for clever design ideas and tips to make living in a shoebox just a bit more bearable. Luckily, there are thousands of clever people out there who think outside the box (ha ha) and give me tons of inspiration. Here is a round up of my favourite small spaces…

My Fair London – The Suburbs…

Just around the corner from where we live, is a little wooded common area where people go to walk their dogs, do their yoga or sometimes get up to no good. In the winter, it remains a desolate, cold and horrible place but in the summer, it becomes a lush green haven. But by far, my favourite aspect of this park is the surrounding houses. It’s certainly not the wealthiest area in London, but the residents are obviously very house proud. Each garden is immaculate, gates and fencing have been meticulously painted and you can be sure that on a summer’s day, everyone is out in their gardens having a barbeque or playing cricket on the common.

Leave your problems on the balcony…

Sacrificing space is almost a certainty when you live in the city. You adapt, you downsize and use the word ‘cosy’ to describe your new abode. It doesn’t necessarily become easier to live in the small confines but the convenience of city life often cancels out the little niggles. Saying that, I must confess that I could never live without outside space again (we did it for a year and a half and it was brutal, especially on a sunny day). I’m not talking about sprawling landscaped gardens or sun soaked patios (although that would be blissful), nope just good old plain fresh air. A small space outside of the restrictions of your four walls to enjoy a cup of coffee in the early morning sun or relax with a beer after a hard days work. Wouldn’t it be a huge bonus if that space had a killer view? Once again, I turn to the clever Swedes to show you how it’s done.

Getting it right…

Most days, I take my time getting dressed in the morning. I think I am quite meticulous about what I wear and I seldom leave the house in something that doesn’t feel or look right. Despite this, I know I have days where I get it horribly wrong (evidenced by the fact that someone asked me if I belonged to a Pagan group on Monday). I was going to blame the rain for my ill-advised choices but then I saw this beautiful rainy day outfit (on The Daybook blog of course… a.k.a my fashion Bible) and realised that the weather was a very poor excuse! So my question is, how do you stay stylish in the rain?

Coastal Photography…

I’ve blogged about my love of coastal photography many times before, but my trip to Devon gave me the opportunity to give it a go. The coast provides the perfect backdrop for photos, it can be both dramatic and serene and playful yet serious. It was by far the most challenging but fun thing I have photographed with my new camera. It’s all still a learning process for me, and we didn’t really go at the right time of the day, early morning and late evening seem to be the times where the light is the most dramatic and captivating.
