The Superhero Blazer

Sunday 29 March 2015

Apologies for the erratic posting of late, but time does not seem to be my friend. Another busy week at work, coursework piling up and a stinking autumn cold has made for a rather unpleasant weekend. I’m totally to blame of course, I’ve been lazy and de-prioritised taking care of myself, settling for wine over exercise and quick fix meals instead of nutritious masterpieces. I’m hoping to get my groove back over the Easter break – redeem myself with exercise, eating properly, perhaps even reading a nice long book. Can’t wait. In the meantime, I am tucked on the end of the sofa in my favourite K-Mart leggings, Jordan’s best winter jumper and a pile of used tissues growing next to me. Very attractive. In the interest of self-medication, I am dong some online browsing and have my eye on these superman blazers for winter. Sharp, smart and sexy. Just what I needed to make me feel better.

Where it Really Happens

Wednesday 25 March 2015

Kitchens sell houses. Fact. I can live with ratty skirtings, weird light fittings and (dare I say it) hideous carpets, but give me a crappy kitchen and I am out of there. It’s where we go to nourish, to create, to congregate and for those reasons alone, it should be beautiful. I stumbled across a Williamsburg loft kitchen on my internet searches and it’s pretty much awe-worthy. Light, loft, marble, painted brick, exposed beams, open storage, blonde floors – these are words you would be well familiar with if you have visited Wishful Thinking more than once. It’s almost like they picked my idea of a perfect kitchen straight out of my head and replicated in Williamsburg. Just like that.

Every Little Thing

Sunday 22 March 2015

I’ve had some randoms sitting on my laptop that I wanted to share. Just some snaps taken in and around Sydney, things that inspired me - bits of history, interesting typography, some architecture. If you look close enough, Sydney has it all. And for those of you interested in cameras, these photos are au natural (i.e. no filters, no Photoshop, no Lightroom, nada) taken with my new favourite toy, the Fuji x30. It’s a compact point and shoot, never far from my handbag, suggested to me by my favourite lady-in-the-know, Lauren (and gifted to me on my birthday in Bali last year). Blogging initially piqued my interest in photography so we bought some cheap kit and then seemingly overnight, what was to become my hobby, became Jordan’s instead. I still love to take photos but the fiddly expensive SLR is far better suited to someone with more passion and patience than me. Don’t get my wrong, I still love to take photos but I’m all for convenience and simplicity. Now instead of being left with empty hands and a spectacular view, I get to play around with my fun Fuji (hands off Jordan Smith).

The Style Gurus

Thursday 19 March 2015

Let’s talk fashion. A day early, I know, but hopefully welcome nonetheless. Even though Sydney is still basking in sunshine and pleasant temperatures, there has been a noticeable shift in the air. Leaves are bronzing, darkness comes sooner and I find myself reaching for the nearest throw when curled up on the sofa. I’ve always found it a bit tricky to dress for the transition time between Autumn and Winter, get it wrong and you could end up baking to death in a wool coat or worse, freezing in a light shirt. Since I have already given the nod to Swedish interiors this week, I thought it only fitting to turn to them for some much needed fashion inspiration for the cooler months. Flawless, no?

Autumn Cravings

Monday 16 March 2015

I’ve been a slack tourist lately – spending far too much time cooped indoors lazing in front of the television or hunched over a laptop screen. I’m shamed to admit that my camera and walking shoes have been relegated to the depths of my wardrobe. Although I am catching up on heaps of work and rest, it’s made me a boring blogger. I promise to rectify this situation soon, but in the meantime, can I placate you with some show-stopping interiors? This Gothenburg apartment made me sigh out loud with contentment. As the weather starts to turn in Sydney, I find myself longing for cracking fires, leather armchairs and snug rugs under my feet. I’m particularly drawn to the natural, earthy colour palette paired with that clean and crisp Swedish light.

That’s All

Wednesday 11 March 2015

I’ll keep it short and sweet for today as it’s not yet 7am and I have only had two sips of coffee. I for one needed some mid-week inspiration and when I found this image on Pinterest, I just had to post it. The colours, the view, the bleached timber – it made my heart sing.

Green Comfort

Sunday 8 March 2015

There are two weeks of the month where work keeps me so busy that I crawl through the front door at the end of the day, tummy shimmy to the sofa and nurse a large glass of wine as my mind simmers down. Dinners are shoddily prepared and bad hair days are aplenty. Last month, two busy weeks stretched into three and it feels like I am only now coming up for air. I have a brief respite before I start my design coursework (mountains of paperwork already received… eeeek) and the business at work begins again. *sigh*  But I’m excited to get stuck into a new project, no matter what craziness it might bring. And I have been taking solace in the comfort of pot plants. Yes, that’s right, Meghan Smith, Vicious Murderer of all things green and lovely, has become the crazy plant lady. Our little balcony is full to bursting with life (and well, if I am honest, death). Fingers crossed that my new batch of succulents manage to last more than a few months?
