Just the Absence of Colour

Sunday, 7 June 2015

I had an art teacher in high school that deplored the use of black in any paintings or pictures. Claimed it was the “absence of colour”. This is my rebellion to that notion. An ode to monochrome on a Sunday afternoon.

Beaches of South Australia

Wishful Thinking - Jervis Bay

Ask any Sydney-sider for their thoughts on Adelaide and they are likely to wrinkle their nose and ask you why on earth you wanted to visit it. On this occasion, I am so glad that I didn’t listen to the critics. Not only did we eat like kings for 4 days but we encountered some of the most awe-worthy scenery I have ever seen. The beaches were a particular source of wonder for us – the turquoise glassy water of the ocean against the dusty reds and browns of the mountains rendered us speechless. The diverse landscape of Australia (beaches in particular) continues to surprise me.

Above is a picture of my favourite NSW beach (Jervis Bay) and below is the stark contrast of the beaches of Adelaide.

Winter Blues

Wednesday, 3 June 2015

I write this post huddled under the thickest, woolliest blanket I could find with only my nose and eyes poking out of the top. The temperature of our little oil heater is cranked up to it’s highest setting and it still feels tundra-esque in this living room. I am seriously considering turning on the trusty fan-assisted oven and opening the door. Winter has appeared and she feels mighty ticked off. I know it’s only the beginning but already I miss the convenience of slip-on shoes and no coat. I miss floaty fabrics and sun-kissed shoulders, beach bags and badass sunnies. And as I bundle myself into my down jacket tomorrow morning and waddle out the house looking remarkably like the Michelin Man, I know I will miss the warmth of summer even more. I am counting down the days until we meet again. I will come prepared.

Just Bring Your Towel

Sunday, 31 May 2015

Brace yourself. We are going on a little trip. To Miami. We are going to lie on the beach, in front of the azure blue water and order ourselves a very large drink. When we are done, we are going back to our hotel (1 Hotel South Beach… because that’s how we do) to sit in the lounge and just marvel at the perfectly balanced beauty of it. When we get bored of that, we are going to retire to our beautifully appointed suites and gawp at the view. And that’s our day in a nutshell. Want to see more?

I Need a White Horse

Monday, 25 May 2015

My Monday stunk. So I am taking solace in my favourite flannel pyjamas, a packet of corn chips and re-runs of Antiques Roadshow. Also helping alleviate the suckiness of my day is this image from Anthropoolgie. I need that sofa, that mirror and I seriously need that white horse.

Autumn in an Australian German Town

Wednesday, 20 May 2015

Australian German Town. This is a thing. And one of them exists in South Australia. At the beginning of April, Jordan and I made our way down to Adelaide to spend a whirlwind weekend discovering Adelaide and all it has to offer (including three, yes three, spectacular wine regions). I can talk your ear off about the awesome things that we did that weekend (and I will in time) but I just wanted to share a few of my favourite snaps from Hanhndorf where autumn was in full swing. As someone who spends most of my time in lush, green, almost tropical coastal New South Wales, I swooned over the golden light and crispy autumn leaves. The best part? We got to experience a little slice of Europe coupled with summer temperatures. Oh yes, and did I mention the kranskys?

Meanwhile In Morocco

Sunday, 17 May 2015

I have been absent, that much is obvious. But boy, did I need that break. I got to hang out with my family and explore some more of this beautiful country (notice how I didn’t mention anything about coursework? Yes, we won’t mention that). I’ve got lots to share but said coursework needs to take priority so I might disappear again… but not for that long. I’ll try and redeem myself with this hilltop beauty perched on the Moroccan mountains. Earthy soft colours and strong lines dominate the design, with giant windows that frame the spectacular view from seemingly every room. We have Studio Ko to thank for this loveliness.
