My Fair London – My ‘Hood’

Friday, 6 May 2011

Happy Friday everyone! Today I bring you my little corner of South West London for My Fair London post.

It’s taken lots of hard work and many house-shares later but I finally live in a an area of London that I love! Money was tight when I first arrived and rental property is rare and very expensive, so we did what we had to and took what we could get. Our very first flat didn’t have a television – this wasn’t a problem as our nightly entertainment consisted sitting at the window watching the police search helicopter or raids on the house next door.  Strangely, I look back on all those experiences with fondness, we had a lot of fun and met some colourful characters (one particular landlord had an obsession with Samurai swords, he was a riot…not!) But it is those experiences that make me appreciate what I have now even more.

Breaking Boundaries…

Thursday, 5 May 2011

Wanna see pictures of an amazingly trendy hotel? Thought so! Meet the Boundary Hotel located in Shoreditch, London… and we are in love! The building was originally a Victorian warehouse which was carefully converted to preserve the attractive industrial features (this was the first project by Prescott & Conran Limited). Each room has been individually designed, and the hotel includes three restaurants and bars, a small British food store and a bakery. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, ‘an environmental approach was adopted at the Boundary wherever possible’!

Garden Wars…

Wednesday, 4 May 2011

This past weekend I declared war on my garden. I may or may not have mentioned how much I hate gardening but fortunately, I dislike the way my garden currently looks even more! So I recruited some muscle (and when I say ‘recruited’ I mean ordered and bossed around) and we dug, raked, cursed, planted, watered, ached and sweated for 2 days until we could barely move. The depressing thing is that it still needs quite a lot of work but it’s getting there! Maybe one day, it might closely resemble something like this…

Oh so pretty!

Tuesday, 3 May 2011

I know everyone is a little weddinged-out but let’s just talk wedding dresses for a minute… Last week, I had heard rumours that Kate Middleton’s designer might be Phillipa Lepley, so of course I swooped like a seagull and did some research to see what to expect. Now I am going to say something that will have many woman scratching their heads, but wedding dresses scare me. Actually weddings in general (slight problem with this, as I am engaged). Being on display and having to wear a poofy meringue dress gives me sweaty palms! I digress, that’s a subject for another day! What I really want to say is that Phillipa Leplay’s dresses help me forget that ‘cringe factor’ and make me want to wear one, regardless of getting married or not!! Let me show you…

London Styling!

Happy Monday y’all! I’m late posting again today, but these bank holidays have really messed with my routine! I’m really not complaining, honest, I didn’t leave the house for 2 days straight! I just pottered about in ratty gardening clothes with no make-up and dreadlocks beginning to form in my hair, it was great! Since I am still feeling the patriotic effects of the Royal Wedding, I thought I would carry on the London theme by showing you this f.a.b.u.l.o.u.s London apartment that I came across! I am dying over the gorgeous arched windows and the shutters over the mezzanine level! According to the owner (James McNamara), the house has previously been a school, a ballroom and an illegal nightclub!
