Necessity

Wednesday, 26 August 2015

I wonder how many times I have said (or have overheard) the phrase: I need a holiday. In all honesty, I don’t think the saying has ever rung truer for me at the moment. I’m hanging on by a thread here. I’m dreaming of sun-kissed shoulders, wide brimmed sun hats, drinks with little cocktail umbrellas, the sounds of the sea lapping at rocks… getting a bit carried away here. My next getaway is not for a while yet so join me while I take a little virtual trip to Mykonos, specifically the San Giorgio Hotel. You can thank me later.

Just Bring Your Towel

Sunday, 31 May 2015

Brace yourself. We are going on a little trip. To Miami. We are going to lie on the beach, in front of the azure blue water and order ourselves a very large drink. When we are done, we are going back to our hotel (1 Hotel South Beach… because that’s how we do) to sit in the lounge and just marvel at the perfectly balanced beauty of it. When we get bored of that, we are going to retire to our beautifully appointed suites and gawp at the view. And that’s our day in a nutshell. Want to see more?

Travel Envy – Pumphouse Point, Tasmania

Wednesday, 18 February 2015

Our favourite breakfast weather lady is on a tour of Australia, starting in Tasmania. It’s the first time I have ever been excited the watch the weather first thing in the morning. A few weeks ago, the weather was broadcast from Pumphouse Point. I missed the story on account of being a total zombie before at least two cups of coffee, and well, in all honesty, I’m barely conscious until the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 10 (ok, I lie, on 11). But somebody else is a regular busy body in the morning and sent me the link to this place and we immediately agreed it was blog worthy. Located (quite literally) on Lake St Clair in Tasmania, the heritage listed Pumphouse Point is a truly special place to stay. See for yourself…

P.S – you can either stay over the lake or on the equally special shore house. Both are beautiful, both have spectacular views and both are kid-free zones. I have already started planning/saving.

The view from the TAA Seaplane. Not all pilots get a runway like this.

A Hankering for the Old Country

Wednesday, 15 October 2014

I am happy to say that I have had very few moments of severe homesickness (for London that is, I still get homesick for my original African home). Sunny, warm days and living opposite the beach might have something to do with this. But every now and then, I find my mind straying to a snug, low ceilinged pub with a crackling fire, or a sleepy stone town in the Cotswolds, or our teeny tiny house in our little close and it’s there, a pang of homesickness to rival none other. I’m indulging that feeling today by posting about The Wild Rabbit – a beautiful traditional pub and hotel located on Oxfordshire, just a mere two hours outside of London. I’ll let the pictures do the talking but needless to say, it has me missing things.
