Concrete Counters…

Wednesday, 15 August 2012

This might sound insane, but my kitchen counters keep me awake at night. They are vile – cheap chipboard covered in plastic made to look like granite and peeling at the corners so every time I walk past them, they tauntingly snag my jumpers and flaunt their hideousness in my face. As a renter, this is just one of the headaches I have to deal with. But thankfully I know it’s temporary and in the meantime, I seek solace in my heart’s desire – polished concrete counters. Both stylish and cheap. Let’s marvel shall we?

  2. Oh, there are so many things about our homes keeping us up at night and the kitchen is just one of them. Had our hearts set on white marble but you have us loving this look, especially for a country farm kitchen!

  3. I can honestly say I've never considered concrete for counter-tops, but after seeing those kitchen images, I may just reconsider. Especially since it seems to go so well with the muted greys that I love.

I'm dealing with disgusting white kitchen tiles from the 80's in our rental....I suppose there always has to be at least one hideous thing, right? :)

  6. Mine keep me up too!!! I want to paint the cabinets but it won't look good with the lame laminate. Who knows when we can replace it! These are some pretty concrete counter tops. I haven't given much thought to concrete. Hmmmmm.

  8. We had that awful plastic stuff in Antwerp but luckily it wasn't torn anywhere, simply white and worn. Here we have tiles which is already better but I'm longing for something new. One day, one day ;-)

  9. *sigh* I love them.

My friend, who lives in the countryside, in the middle of nowhere, is redoing her already lovely, fairly large kitchen... with concrete counters!

Meanwhile I, who simply have to live close to the center of Zurich, have a tiny kitchen... with wooden counters. I mean, what the what? Wood? Wood gets stained, and gets burnt from hot pots, and gets discolored if wet. I might eve take your counters over mine!

  12. It's so tricky when you're renting. At least when you own your own home, you'll be able to put all your interior expertise to work. x

  13. I love concrete counter tops! That's what we would choose if we could redo our kitchen but it is not going to happen anytime soon...

  14. I love these too. If I have problems sleeping, I just make a mental note of all the things I want to fix in my current rental. That does the trick on good old insomnia.

  15. Ugh rental counter tops are the worst! I know exactly what you mean by keeping you up at night. I dream about ripping up the counter tops and floors in my rental! And if I had a choice, they would definitely be polished concrete :)
