Thanks for all the encouraging words on my last day of work on Friday (Erin, your comment in particular ensured that there were no embarrassing tears as I left the building for the last time, I actually felt quite excited for all the new possibilities)! So with pesky work no longer taking up my day, Australia plans are in full force for our departure on Saturday (eeeek). I have spent an obscene amount of time ogling at apartments and houses I can’t afford on realestate.com.au, and more practically, I have been looking at the shoe boxes we can just about afford. Like any city, it seems gardens are quite the luxury in Sydney so it is likely we will have to make do with a balcony or courtyard, which I am surprisingly ok with (given my appalling gardening skills… I killed a cactus the other day! A cactus)! But I can’t help the pang of sadness I feel for leaving our patch of grass [and dead plants] behind. Maybe one day I will have the time, skills and patience to create a little Eden like this Nantucket seaside garden I found featured in Veranda…

I'm so impressed with this beautiful, lush garden so close to the seaside. Maybe you could have a little herb garden in your kitchen, although maybe not, after the cactus! :) x
ReplyDeleteNantucket is a crazy beautiful amazing space. We have friends who live there who we visited last Thanksgiving and we'll go back again this year. Everywhere you turn is a stunning view or some picturesque cottage, and it truly is one of my favorite places on the earth. Even in late fall it was spectacularly beautiful, and I can't wait to see it again. I'll try to find the links to the posts I wrote back last November/December, but if you're at all interested (cause I know you have tons of time right now!), you can always search "Nantucket" on my site.
ReplyDeleteI'm super excited for you. Another foot forward on your big adventure. I'm thrilled we get to follow along on the journey! XO
I can't tell you how excited I am for you ..... I am relishing in your change!!! This Nantucket house is to die for!!! If I were to ever build a house, I would model it after this one. I can't say I've got enough of a green thumb to tackle a garden like this but I'll take a beach any day. Bless your little cactus :-)
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you are off on Saturday. How quick has that come around? Will be thinking of you and wishing you a safe and happy journey. Just embrace every second; the journey begins now ;-) xx
ReplyDeletei have seen house hunters in sydney and it does look like a tough market for housing ($$) but you know all those house hunters are super particular. do you even get that show in england?
ReplyDeletehow exciting to be looking for a new place! i haven't moved in so long and i really wish i could sometimes (but then i look at the prices and i decide i am good right where i am!). but it does sound really fun to me from time to time. xo
ps i kill all my plants too :(
Yikes yikes - can't believe it's actually here. I'm getting butterflies in my stomach for you. All of the homes that I've seen so far in Sydney are gorgeous. I'm sure you'll be able to find a little gem to call your own
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness gorgeous gardens and so exciting to be on the hunt for a new place! Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy I was able to (virtually) make your last day a little easier! Those days are never 'easy' per se, but I'm so so excited for your new adventures! You are going to have so much fun every step of the way (yes, even unpacking. I promise!). I adore this house. There is no way I'll ever be able to have such a beautiful outdoor space, unless I could pay a full-time gardener to keep it looking so picturesque. xo
ReplyDeleteThat is so exciting! House hunting, that's going to be one big ride and wishing you all the best in finding your first and new home in Oz. I'm now catching up with the previous posts I've missed.
ReplyDeleteWOW. that house is really something else. the outdoor table?! crazy.
