Shelves in the bedroom…

Wednesday, 18 January 2012

I can’t do a blog post without acknowledging the ridiculously cold day we had yesterday! I was subjected to sniggers all throughout the morning as I refused to take off my coat, ear warmers and gloves for the first hour of my work day. Ok, I may have been a little over-dramatic! I do wonder how people cope in places colder than London!? Needless to say, I spent the whole day wishing I was snuggled up in bed with hot chocolate and good books instead of trudging through the dreary ice-cold January streets.  Since I can’t stay in bed, I thought I would bring the beds to us! Lately I am really drawn to over-cluttered bedrooms, particularly those with shelves above the bed. This is definitely something I intend to do the second I work out how to hang a shelf on a wall no thicker than a piece of cardboard!

  4. I'm actually thinking about putting a shelf above my bed for books, lamps and other little things. We don't really have room for a nightstand, since our new bed has drawers that come all the way out, so shelves are perfect solution! I think it adds a nice touch too.

  5. Given that my books and nick knacks are piled by my bedside, a shelf any where in the room would be welcome! We had a very chilly weekend but things are warming up here a bit this week - trading the fur boots for wellies!

  7. I got to stay in bed yesterday with books as my daughter was sick. Not that I was happy about her being sick; just very happy to have a good excuse to relax in bed and read.

Shelves about the bed are not for me. I think it has something to do with growing up in Iceland where there are earthquakes. I didn't want anything to fall on my head ;-)

PS. Are you kidding me, are you going to Dordogne this year?!! You lucky lucky girl.

I absolutely love all of these bedrooms you've found, the second and third one would have to be my fave.

  14. I have been dying for some bedroom inspiration!!! I never thought about what to put above or even behind the bed. A SHELF!!! I absolutely love the idea, the picture of the old shelf with the candles is what I love. A good set of sconces by the bed sides look like a must too. BTW, it's freezing here in Vancouver too. We don't normally get as cold as the rest of Canada, but we've got it pretty back this week. I am super whiney in this weather, so I'll buck up because I know that I'm not the only one having to brave the stuff!

  15. This isn't an idea that would normally appeal to me but I LOVED the first image. Visually interesting without looking cluttered and I wouldn't lie in bed worried that the cat was about the knock a picture frame onto my head!

  16. I like that last one with the 3 b&w photos and the big 'N'. And you could just change the display when it took your fancy.

Strange to think of you with your ear warmers and gloves, as we're slathering on sun screen and taking the kids to the pool to cool down! Sorry, don't mean to rub it in :) xxx
