White painted brick fireplaces have been popping up all over the place lately. I initially hated the idea, I mean what happens if you really hate it? It’s really not that easy (if impossible) to correct it and then you are stuck with a hideous damaged fireplace! But it turns out that I have done a complete 180 and changed my mind! I think it helps that the only examples I have come across have been breath-takingly beautiful! The light colour seems to totally transform the fireplace, uplifting and modernising at the same time!
Do you change your mind about finishes/furnishings? Have you ever hated something that you now love?
P.S – the white is purely coincidence! :)

these examples are all great. the design of the room and color of the corresponding walls helps - i had a friend who painted her fireplace white but what she did with the rest of the room makes it looks awffffuuullll. but if she likes it then that's all that matters.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved white painted fireplaces - such a great way to freshen up an older home with hideous brick (I love brick but not all brick is pretty).
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved in, ours was already painted white and if it wasn't, I wouldn't hesitate to paint it white...... course, my favorite color is white. But I have the same challenge because a few years back my hubby and I redid our kitchen, exposed the stack, which is brick. At the time we felt it was best to leave it but now after 4 years and seeing all this white inspiration on blogs, I know want to paint it but am scared. PLUS, my hubby doesn't really want to. Not that that's a big speed bump .... I need to follow up with your comments on this one.
ReplyDeletei love painted fireplaces. i had one of those "oh sh*t" moments when i convinced a friend to paint an entire brick fireplace wall in her house yellow. when the painters arrived i had the "what if she hates it, we can't un-do it!" moment....but she loved it and it looks so much better! nothing worse than ugly brick!
ReplyDeleteI go back and forth with painting brick. I think it looks really nice painted but I hate to be the first one doing something that is such trouble to undo.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a fireplace I would 100% paint it! Lovely pics.
ReplyDeleteI would like one because I have a black marble (with some white - previous owners). Although people seem to like it. These are pretty because they are neutral and so much can be done to have them either be a focal point or blend in. Also the size plays a part..a darker fireplace can weigh down a room. I am liking them more in the room with the darker beamed ceiling and where the wood floors is exposed - the contrast is appealing..I do like the outdoors one:)
ReplyDeleteI haven't really thought about what I think of that look. I don't hate it but it's also nothing that I'm particularly drawn too. Well, I think I'm also more of a wood burner kind of girl ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think white fireplaces are beautiful and elegant! Great finds.

The first is my fave ( I am a sucker for subway tiles). Lately, I find myself coming around to brass finishes which I actually detested before.
ReplyDeleteI really like those fireplaces, white painted brick always has something natural/rustic yet clean and light about it. A great combination I think. Have a lovely evening xo
ReplyDeleteI use to hate anything that looked 'old,' like something my mother or grandmother would own. But, go figure, as I get older, I find myself liking those very things! Funny how tastes change.
ReplyDeleteI change my mind all the time... that's a woman's privilege, right? I love the photos and especially the white brick... it takes guts but afterward... WOW!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing...
Great finds, beautiful inspirations. I like a painted fireplace, it lends a bright and light feeling about it.
