Pocket Size

Wednesday, 12 November 2014

Having grown up in a tiny house and lived in a variety of cubby holes in London, it’s fair to say I have spent most of my life in very small houses. Apart from the obvious nuances – lack of privacy, lack of storage, lack of space, there is a genuine comfort and cosiness that exists between those four walls. I think even if money was no object for me, I’d likely go for the small and pretty, rather than than the palatial mansion. If you ever needed convincing, take a look at this little pocket-sized (540 square foot) home on Sauvie Island, an agricultural island on the Columbia River 15 minutes north of Portland.  My Pinterest boards are no stranger to several of these rooms but I had yet to see the whole house, laid out in all it’s beauty. Abundant light, clever storage, open plan rooms – they’ve thought just about everything to get that feeling of space and comfort. Read more about it here…

  1. I could totally see myself living there - I'm completely comfortable with small spaces and minimizing all the excess stuff I have. Isn't the Pacific Northwest just wonderful?

  4. It's just so beautiful and such a clever use of space. The garden with all the colourful chairs looks such an inviting area too.

  5. Oh yeah. I've seen bits and pieces of this too and LOVE! It's so gorgeous. All that light and bright wood give the sense of space and that *sense* I think is all we need. I've said before that our home is too big for us, and we spend all of your time in just a few rooms. I'm ready to make it smaller.

  6. This storage place is great to store your excess items, whichever they may be. Whether your storing your winter items and exchanging them for summer items, everything will be safe and clean.

  7. i can live there for sure! i love the space that is just enough of what you need. I'll choose Iris's Rosehill Cottage rather than Amanda's mansion over and over again.

  8. i shared this house awhile back and it's still by far one of my favorites. i have even had the sneaky thought of trying to do a drive-by (i mean look-by). it's so perfect.
