Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin!

Even though Halloween in England is not really celebrated to the same extent as in the US, I was so inspired by all the festivity in blogland that we decided to carve our very first pumpkins! It felt really good to throw ourselves into the spirit of things. Along with carving pumpkins, we took a moment to notice the pleasant chill in the air and wrapped up warmly in front of classic Halloween slasher movies, enjoyed an afternoon run in the park with yellow, orange and red leaves floating in our path, and of course, eating endless variations of pumpkin! How did you/will you celebrate Halloween?

I thought I would leave you with some absolutely stunning Second Empire architecture. This is probably one of my favourite architectural styles as it manages to make me swoon and give me the chills at the same time!

Hever Castle

Want to know what you do when you are bored on a Sunday afternoon in England? You pack a picnic basket, hop in the car and visit a castle. You are guaranteed never to run out of options because there are literally dozens of them dotted amongst the countryside or even amongst the cities. My favourite thing to do when visiting them is to take a minute to shut everything out and imagine how many people passed over this bridge or brushed against this wall or stared at that painting… it just never gets boring for me. A few weeks ago we took a little road trip to Hever Castle, the childhood home of Ann Boleyn. The highlights of the castle include 2 mazes (one is a water maze which is sooo much fun), a beautiful rose garden and orchard, archery lessons, a moat and an absolutely terrifying room filled with ancient instruments of torture.

P.S – I didn’t realise that we weren’t meant to take pictures inside so I managed to nab one of the more modern living rooms (check out the beautiful ceiling).

Boo hoo! I’m blue.

Thanks for everyone’s well wishes yesterday, unfortunately I made some silly mistakes and got a big fat FAIL marked on my little piece of paper. It didn’t help that my examiner hailed from one of the 7 corners of hell or that I did my entire test in torrential rain… not that I am making excuses or anything. My only victory of the day was making my examiner so uncomfortable with my uncontrollable sobbing that she fled the car! But never fear m’dears, I am getting back on that very big scary horse again very soon so stay tuned as the saga continues. As a result of my horrid day yesterday, I am feeling blue folks, proper blue. Diva TV and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s blue. And my favourite thing to do when I am feeling like this is to swoon over some beautiful interiors. Who’s with me?

Keep Calm and Drive!

It’s the morning of my driving test and I am two steps away from hysteria. And if one more person says “you’ll be fine” to me, I will not be responsible for my actions! So to calm my nerves, I am being proactive, going over the meticulous steps of parallel parking, reversing around a corner and turning in the road.
