Hand me that olive branch…

Wednesday, 1 May 2013

Thanks for putting up with my creative block yesterday everyone. We have a bank holiday coming up this weekend and I am hoping to get back into the swing of things. Our grass looks like some sort of exotic jungle and we are one broken plastic lawn chair away from resembling a crack den, so the thankless task of gardening is on the cards. You all know how much I hate gardening so I won’t bore you with the details but let’s just say that I am famed for growing sticks. That aside, I have my heart set on an olive tree to liven up my kitchen window (if you listen closely you might just hear the collective gasp of olive tree victims all around the world). Has anyone ever had one? Are they difficult to kill? Are they needy or suicidal? They sure do look pretty!

  3. Omg.. your post makes me want to go to the nearest garden centre to find an olive tree or something that looks similar.

  4. I literally snorted into my water bottle when I read "crack den"! You crack me up (no pun intended.) I love all of these and would have never identified that plant as an olive tree otherwise. I've seen them all over the place in home photos but never knew! Pinning a few of these for inspiration :) xoxo

  5. Haha. Um, they do look really pretty but I have no experience with them as it turns out! Definitely going to pin a couple of these photos though!

  6. haha, that was hilarious. one broken lawn chair away from looking like a crack den. i get it, i sometimes ride that line in my garden area as well. well, i am pretty sure that is the funniest thing i will read today.

as for the olive trees, i have no idea but they are so pretty. i would think they like the heat but i really don't know. i want one now too though.

  7. You're hilarious! Our lawn is looking a little jungly too .... and we're going away for a few days so by the time we're back it will be a crazy jungle ... ahhhh the headaches of a homeowner. But about the olive trees, I swoon over these and I wanted one in our backyard but apparently it's too cold so someone mentioned something called a "weeping pear tree with insignificant fruit" is the tree to go with and that it looks exactly like an olive tree. I know, depressing sounding name but it's a beauty and it's quite happy in our back yard. Can you grow olive trees inside? It looks as though you can from these pics.

  8. I want an olive tree too! I may or may not have killed one in the past (ahem). But! That was before my husband became a gardener. I have high hopes for any future olive trees. They remind me so much of Greece, a country that is dear to my heart. Olive trees in big tubs on sun-drenched balconies. Sigh. A girl can dream, can't she. Yeah, I'd pretty much put those dreams to bed until all your gorgeous photos. Thanks for that. ;)

Thanks really, for your sweet comment on my blog!

    1. Hmmm, sun-drenched is not a word I would use to describe our living room. I may need to rethink this! Thanks Lauren!

  9. I am so like you in the garden Meghan, that's why I leave it all to Mark. Inside it my domain, outside is his. Funnily enough he was just saying that he wanted to get an olive tree for our place - I love them. Best of luck x
