Monday Snoop – Not your average beach house

I am rather embarrassed (and bemused) to admit that I spent most of yesterday removing fuzzies from my jumpers with my brand new Bobble Off (it was actually quite satisfying). Before you judge, know that if I said it was pouring with rain, it would be an understatement. Besides my obvious need to get a life, I also need to get some SUN!  So of course I tortured myself with images of beaches and more importantly beach houses. I stumbled across this weatherboard beauty and when I read that it was located in somewhere called Wild Dunes (Charleston SC), I knew it had to be mine. Designed by Herlong Architects, the owners wanted their home to be classic and sophisticated whilst being comfortable and liveable. I just about died of swooning when I saw that outside space! Now just how much money do you think I need to buy it?

The power of a good cry (and an epic spring wardrobe)

TGIF lovelies! Would you think I was crazy if I told you that while I was setting up this post last night, I was also trying to have a good cry? My mom always used to tell me never to underestimate the power of a proper cry. You know the kind I mean? The one that can start over the smallest thing like a cup of spilled coffee or a broken heel and can leave you quietly exhausted and equally content. So I had a little lightbulb moment yesterday when I realised that my crappy attitude probably stems from the fact that I am long overdue for a sobbing session. I have to take my hat off to actors because wow, it’s really, really hard to cry on cue. I tried everything from going through family photos, watching the tail end of The Notebook to even pinching myself. Not a single tear was shed. In fact it became quite comical, and miracle of miracles, I have woken up feeling decidedly lighter of heart. (Is this all sounding a bit nuts or are there others who believe in the therapy of crying)?

And if I wasn’t feeling better already, the new spring line from Spanish fashion house BDBA certainly would have rectified that. I was immediately drawn to the flowing Bohemian lines, soft blush colours and sparkly details. Now if only I could fill my wardrobe with each and every one of these pieces…

Where my head is at…

I like to use my blog as a positive and creative outlet, but let’s face it, some days I just want to have a good old rant. Today is one of those days. But since this is the internet and I occasionally scroll through my own previous posts, I would rather not be reminded of the day I had a meltdown over nothing in particular on my blog. Well it’s not over nothing but in the grand scheme of things it’s minor (probably). But let’s just say I am feeling a little frazzled and a lot tired. I feel like my headspace is a work in progress at the moment and I am trying very hard not to sweat the little things but please bear with me while I take a day to re-align and re-zen… and possibly self-medicate with wine and chocolate.

For the love of copper

Ever since I took my very first bath in a copper bath tub, I have been experiencing a love affair with all things copper. I am especially enamoured by the fact that it can be both dressed up or dressed down. I’m really loving the raw and rustic plumbing fittings and fixtures that keep appearing all over the internet. Here’s what I am talking about…. where do you stand?

The Wonder of Bodiam

A lazy and cold Saturday afternoon called for a visit to Bodiam Castle, a 14^th century moated (ruinous) castle set in the heart of 1066 country. Jordan and I have vowed to visit as many moated castles as we can in our lifetime (because a castle isn’t really a castle to us if it doesn’t have a moat) so we were so excited to tick another one off the list. The steep staircases are not for the feint hearted and the constant warnings about bats had me questioning my sanity but the views of the surrounding countryside are well worth the effort. 

Couldn’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon!

P.S – it wasn’t misty the afternoon we visited but I came across some haunting pictures of the castle surrounded by an eerie mist that made me think we should return for another look around on a cold and misty morning…

Monday Snoop – To the Country We Go!

Curse me and my cursed mouth. Why, oh why did I speak too soon? London is currently in the throes of another icy spell with more snow predicted this morning. I am so over it, it’s not even funny. I want to retreat to the quiet, to the warmth to somewhere where winter temperatures equal that of England’s summer temperatures. I’m thinking California?  Somewhere like the home of antiques dealer Sarah Anderson – filled to bursting with character, soft neutrals and eye wateringly beautiful details.
