Swedish Genius!

Wednesday, 27 April 2011

Ok so I think I am over my funk from this morning – I felt a little bit like I was wading through treacle and not making any progress! I think perhaps my weekend was a little too relaxed and I completely fell out of routine and general motivation to do anything. Luckily/unluckily we have another 4 day weekend up ahead with the Royal Wedding on Friday (London looks amazingly festive BTW) and our May Day Bank Holiday on Monday, so I get to do this all again next week! Getting back into the groove of things, I bring you the beautiful stylings of flawless Swedish Interior Designer Jimmy Schonning. Question: can the Swedish ever put a stylish foot wrong? He doesn’t seem to have a distinct style, some rooms are masculine and angular, other are feminine and fun? I LOVE it! I post beautiful images of interiors as often as I come across them but these images really stuck out for me because they completely inspired me and got the creative juices flowing. Talented man, no?

Chocolate coma!

Well, I’m back but not really here! I am ashamed to say that I haven’t really got anything meaningful to blog about just yet – I’m declaring it a chocolate/sugar coma. I will be back in the land of the living later today (after several million cups of coffee)! See ya later!

My Fair London – Hyde Park

Friday, 22 April 2011

Happy Easter everyone! Thanks to a heatwave in London, we will be deviating from the usual roast dinner and celebrating Easter outdoors with a picnic in Hyde Park! So I guess it’s only fitting to introduce this park in My Fair London post!

The city can be suffocating with constant traffic, noise, pollution, and crowds but located in the middle of all this chaos is an oasis of quiet and calm. When the sun slightly peaks out, regardless of the temperature, city workers in suits flock to the park to lie out on the grass minus socks and shoes – this always gives me the giggles! You can do just about anything at Hyde Park, you can hire a Boris bike and cycle around, you can rent a little pedal boat and pedal up and down the pond, you can start your own political debate at Speaker’s Corner, jump in the observation wheel and take a ride, have a bite to eat at the Serpentine Cafe or even paddle about in the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. Check it out if you are in London, you will fall in love with it!

Speaker’s Corner – anyone can jump up on a box and start talking, the topics range but people usually debate about religion and politics. Although if you are lucky, you might see someone claiming to be an alien or something similar!

That winding path-like thing is actually the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain – it’s not the most attractive fountain but kids seem to love it!

Idyllic

Thursday, 21 April 2011

I think my post title completely sums up the entire setting of the Birkenhead Hotel in Hermanus, South Africa. I’ve been a little homesick with the holidays coming up so I have been planning a trip home in my head! The only problem with going home is that you fall back into your usual pattern so it doesn’t really feel like a holiday so (if I win the lottery any time soon) I am hoping I could spend a week just chilling out and acclimatising at this beautiful spot, maybe do a little whale watching, go on a safari, pig out on all the yummy food I’ve been missing, get a massage in front of that view, soak until I’m prune-like in that tub and then curl up on that fluffy bed and sleep for 2-3 days straight… then I would wake up and repeat the whole process over!
