The Ups and Downs

I know, I know. I have been a sporadic blogger at best but I’m not going to lie, this week has been really tough on me. Dozens of agency interviews (and well, you know how those go) but nothing really has come to fruition for either of us. The worry and panic really set in for me yesterday (Jordan kept chanting “DAY 3” at me, like I was some kind of crazy person for cracking so soon) and I spent the morning moping about in my pyjamas with unbrushed hair, ugly crying. Of course we have been told by many that things move slower in Australia and we need to be patient but one day without work brings us ever closer to the end of our studio lease and the inevitable financial worry. Having been in my previous job for almost 5 years, I had forgotten the feelings of rejection that flood you when you receive no response to your application or worse, are told you are unsuitable or under-qualified. Jordan realised an intervention was needed STAT and took me for long walk on the beach to clear my head. It did wonders for reminding me of all the reasons why we are here and made me all the more determined to be around to enjoy it when I finally have a stable income. I was lucky enough to come back to the prospect of another two interviews (one I was so excited about that I actually squealed in delight when I put the phone down, only to realise that I didn’t put the phone down at all. Cringe). Despite the rollercoaster of ups and downs I have had this week, I have not once doubted our decision or felt homesick. I’m adapting, relaxing, re-evaluating and ugly crying in between.

And these images? Just because they soothed me.

  1. The first thing I have to say is that as I scrolled through these images I thought, "Wow! I never expected Australia to look so moody and soft." ;) Then I realized! Duh.

Oh honey. We've been there. For various reasons, of course, but we've all been in that panic, ugly-crying place. In fact, I think I'm teetering alarmingly near it myself, right now. Your walk on the beach was just what you needed, and how lovely to come back to exciting prospects and good news. Even if it turns out that this isn't THE news (I still have my fingers crossed that it is), it's proof that the right things for you are just around the corner. I know they are. XO

  3. You've done the brave thing and moved here. The hardest part is behind you trust me. It'll work, just don't look back until you get there.

Things in Australia will pick up don't worry, definitely before Christmas so don't feel too disheartened!

  4. You darling. The hardest part is behind you, I promise, even if this job hunting thing feels tougher than moving halfway across the world on your dreams. I pinky promise you will find a good job soon, and all this worry will be for naught. Not that I haven't ugly-cried myself around my house on occasion -- sometimes you just have to. Oh. I wish I could give you a big hug! xo

  5. You are doing great. It is no easy task and feeling homesick is totally expected. I'm thinking good thoughts for you with the job, it will all work out, it just may take some time.

  6. this is the hardest part. feeling vulnerable and nervous - and that's normal given your situation. but this really is the hard part and it's just all that uncertainty that is making you all panicky - which again, totally normal. but it WILL work out. there's two of you. one of your will get a job soon and then you'll both be working and then you'll be walking down the beach another day remembering when you first moved there and ugly-cried all over that little studio and freaked out you were and how you guys had to leave to go to the bathroom. and share a laptop. and you two will laugh and it will make where you end up all that much better when you look back at where you were. xoxo

ps these images are so soothing. i want to crawl into them.

  7. I'm sure you will look back one day and remember that stroll on the beach and wonder why you worried. You will be settled, with jobs and a permanent home enjoying your new life. It's just going to take a little time.

  12. We've all been there and just remember nothing works to our timetable ;-) Maybe the Universe feels you need more time to recharge and savor how far you have come before you get back in the swing of work ;-) If the worse comes to the worse you will do some bar work or go work in a surf shop......something until you get what you want; there is always a way (says she that had more wobbles than I can count when I first moved to Spain). Everyone goes through it but only the strong come through the other end (and I know you are the latter) xx
