I’ve hankered after a fireplace for as long as I can remember (huddling around a radiator that has an airlock more often than not just does not have the same effect), and consequently spend far too much time picturing perfect nights around a roaring fireplace that I don’t have… yet! After seeing some of the fabulous living rooms created by M Elle Design that I posted on Monday, I have become enamoured with the log walls or stacked fire wood placed on either side of the fireplace. The neat freak in me would be worried about spiders and other creepy crawlies taking refuge but visually, it definitely makes my heart beat a little faster!
Thoughts?
back in the day I lived with a fire fighter. every since I'm paranoid when it comes to open fire in the house ;) but it sure looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat the atmosphere that an open fire creates. We're lucky that it does't get too cold where we live, so I'm quite happy with the convenience of our heat pump when we need it. But we often light a brazier on the long summer nights, and that's a similar ambience. x

ReplyDeleteIt's so funny you mentioned the spiders because I'm exactly the same - I love the look of log piles inside but they would freak me because of the spiders!!! x

ReplyDeletePersonally, I prefer wood burners, we had a wood burner in Iceland and I miss having one. Enjoying the morning coffee in winter with the fire burning ... that was pure bliss!

I had a log stack in an unused fireplace, a pigeon fell down and died behind it..... Now I have a working fireplace, a chimney with a wire cap a top it - and a log basket!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of fireplaces, and my aunt had one growing up that was always so much fun to gather around. But I'm too nervous about the flue catching fire or spiders lurking in all that firewood! Haha, I'm neurotic.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a fireplace either and how do we miss it in the winter (especially when the power goes out for 10 days!) We'd be tempted to have a log wall as long as critters don't make a home of it... Off to spend Thanksgiving with the in-laws and wishing you a great end of the week, Meghan!

I really think that part of the fun of having a fireplace is being able to display the wood in such ways. Love it.
ReplyDeletei really love it (although i do think the wall of wood with the fireplace in the middle is a tad bit overkill). what i would do for a fireplace too!
