Leave your problems on the balcony…

Sacrificing space is almost a certainty when you live in the city. You adapt, you downsize and use the word ‘cosy’ to describe your new abode. It doesn’t necessarily become easier to live in the small confines but the convenience of city life often cancels out the little niggles. Saying that, I must confess that I could never live without outside space again (we did it for a year and a half and it was brutal, especially on a sunny day). I’m not talking about sprawling landscaped gardens or sun soaked patios (although that would be blissful), nope just good old plain fresh air. A small space outside of the restrictions of your four walls to enjoy a cup of coffee in the early morning sun or relax with a beer after a hard days work. Wouldn’t it be a huge bonus if that space had a killer view? Once again, I turn to the clever Swedes to show you how it’s done.

  4. I have to admit, that even though I grew up in the city, I've gotten very used to the wide open spaces of the country. It's easy to enjoy not having any neighbours in sight but the cows!

  5. Wow! What an apartment - and what a view!! I dream of a house looking out over a wild and rocky beach with the waves crashing over the sand.....one day!

  6. Oh my, what a view! And the turquoise shades used to decorate which pick up the colour of the water. The effect is so calming. And the kitchen with its brick wall in the eating area and that lovely work space...Beautiful! I couldn't live without a balcony or a little patio either. :)

  10. These are perfect little balconies. As you say, all you really need is a place to get some fresh air, and these do the trick beautifully. And I just love how Swedish homes are always so bright and airy that it almost feels like you are outside even indoors!

  14. Yes, I think I'd struggle too living without an outside space - it certainly wouldn't work for us at the moment with 3 kids and 3 pets. I've often marvelled over the Scandinavian balconies - no matter how small, they always seem to look stylish and inviting. xxx

  17. I could live small and downsize my belongings to a minimum but I could not compromise on outdoor space. Even if it's a tiny balcony I could squeeze only two chairs on. Outdoor space was always the deciding factor when renting an apartment and also when we bought the house.
