Spending a day on the beach in the middle of winter is not something most people would consider… well, except us crazies of course. I hasten to add that I would never have considered something so potentially traumatic if the sun hadn’t been out and the wind was just a gentle breeze. It was cool, but we wrapped up warm, put on our thick boots and trudged across the sand basking in the winter sunshine. I can remember my very first trip to an English beach (it was this very one featured below), and being very underwhelmed (I may or may not have wept uncontrollably and shook my fist at the sky) but the bright winter sun seemed to totally transform this vast flat space. There were probably about 3 people total on the beach that day which further added to the eerie and alien quality of the landscape. Perfect for taking photos!

Great pics. I am heading out to soak up the sun today!!! So happy it is staying lighter longer - makes a huge difference in one's attitude :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I like the seaside in winter.
ReplyDeleteI always love your photos - just beautiful. I can imagine your first English beach visit - quite different to South African beaches! x

ReplyDeletethe photos of the sunlight on the water are truly stunning.
ReplyDeleteI think one of the best times to go to the beach is when it's cold out. It's nice to experience it without a crowd. Very peaceful too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a beautiful and sunny day at the beach. Nothing like a stroll on a deserted beach. When we lived close to the water we did it regularly, weather permitting of course ;)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite time of year to go to the beach is in the winter. The light is better, the place is empty, and there are no bikinis required ;) Looks like you guys had fun!
ReplyDeletegorgeous pics! i'd go to the beach anytime i think...something about water..
ReplyDeletei am one of those weirdos that actually prefers the beach in the wintertime (like erin, haha). i think it's because our beach is still cold even in the summer so i like that stormy and moody vibe that makes me think of weathered fishermen and stories of the sea. these pictures are beautiful and look at your teeny little waist! love the coat too :)
