I’ve got a confession. I have fallen for the geek glasses. As a rule of thumb, I don’t usually follow trends that I know my future kids will laugh at when they look at old photos of me (and I think geeky glasses might just fall into this category). But I am due for new lenses this weekend and I couldn’t help but gravitate towards the thick, black-framed and oversized glasses. Versatile and stylish but will they date quickly?
How about you? Do you wear glasses? What do you think of this trend?
I got my first pair of glasses last year. and guess what. thick black frames. just got a second pair about a week ago and went for smoky grey frames, but still fairly big. I like to call it librarian chic instead of geeky. and I don't really care if they date quickly or not. they are very much me and suit my face. end of story. I also only wear them for work... ha :P
ReplyDeletehaha - yes there is a fine line. i have smaller black glass i like, and am thinking of getting a larger brown pair. but it's really about finding what looks good on you - if the bigger frames look good, do it! if not, get something just a bit smaller. that way when you look back on pictures you'll always look fabulous ;)
ReplyDeleteYou see these all the time - particularly in the movies. These glasses are a facade, almost a disguise. It conveys a nerd look, the librarian look, paritcularly with the hair up but hides a different persona. I like it. Not sure what it says about a dog who sports a pair :)
ReplyDeleteI don't wear my glasses as often as I should. But they are black-framed, just as the ones in first two photos. I don't think this style will ever date.
ReplyDeleteThat first picture CRACKED me up. I have never gotten used to wearing glasses. I went straight into contacts when I had to get corrective eyewear. Something sitting on my nose (even sunglasses) just bothers me
ReplyDeleteThe happiest moment ever for me (slight exaggeration) was when my eye doctor informed me I finally needed glasses. I jumped right on the geeky frames train and haven't looked back! I even went geekier and got clear frames, too. http://www.ilikewantneed.com/2012/09/photobooth-fashion-show/
ReplyDeleteI totally jumped on this trend and LOVE my glasses! I wear my contacts far less now :-)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these geeky frames...when I'm up for new frames in December, I'm totally getting these! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't wear glasses and they say you should be careful what you wish for, but I feel like I am kind of missing out here. Love them! My top knt doesn't look the same without a pair!! X
ReplyDeletei don't know if i can pull it off but i do like the trend a lot! have a great w/e :)
ReplyDeleteI'm needing glasses for the first time in my live, and I'm seriously thinking about those geeky frames...RayBan Clubmasters are my fabs!
ReplyDeleteIf you go through my site, you'll find my new post, I hope you enjoy it!
A big hug, Meghan!

I don't wear glasses (yet), but I did help my Mum choose a new pair recently, and it was so hard to pick from such a huge range. These girls all look gorgeous in their 'geek' glasses, I say 'go for it'. x
ReplyDeletei have wanted to wear glasses since my friend deanna came back from school one day with pretty pink ones in first grade! but gosh darn my perfect eyesight! i keep going in every few years thinking maybe i can at least get some low strength reading glasses but no. so, yes, i love glasses! and geeky glasses are the only ones that exist right?
