The great thing about living in England is that you can pretty much get from one side of the country to the other, in a matter of hours (notwithstanding train delays and the horrendous London traffic of course). I am secretly scolding myself because this should technically mean that we have explored the whole country, but unfortunately this is not the case. We are working on it one city at a time though. I’ll leave you with some pictures I took of our on-a-whim trip to Oxford. Despite being the coldest day in May EVER, we had an absolute blast eating tapas (random I know, but Oxford sure knows how to do tapas) and exploring the university buildings.

Your post has made me even more excited about returning to the UK this year after 12 years away. Sometimes we really don't appreciate the beauty of our country until we have left. Like you say, it is so easy to be in a completely different place within a very short space of time. I think I will appreciate my place of birth more this time around ;-)

This brings back memories of many day trips as a teenager - Oxford, Cambridge, Canterbury, and so on. No matter what the weather, the 6 of us would travel the country. Did not enjoy it as much when the weather was dismal but now I appreciate the opportunities I had to visit some amazing places. Great pics!

ReplyDeleteWe've only been to Oxford once, we've visited London several times. I think we took the train out there because my husband loved the British mystery series, Morse and now Inspector Lewis. We weren't disappointed. I loved it. It was cold when we were there too but I have never seen a more beautiful campus and each building was better than the next. I took some of the same pictures you have shown us today. So pretty...you are lucky to be able to grab a train without too much trouble. I confess, living in the U.S. you have to plan ahead or else pay big time to go places.

ReplyDeleteOxford looks like a great place to poke around. It's so nice to be able to travel quickly like that around your whole country. The States are huge but I live in an area with small states and 6 or 7 of them and parts of Canada make good day trips.

Wow, the architecture is just incredible, it's one of the things I love about England. We are such a young country here in New Zealand, nothing quite compares. xxx
