For the 8 years that Jordan and I have been together, we have only really celebrated Valentine's Day once. We enthusiastically got dressed up and headed out for dinner. The restaurant was over-priced, understaffed and the couple next to us spectacularly ended their relationship. The night was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Ever since then, I have kind of used this an an excuse to be a bit 'bah humbug' about the whole affair (not helped by the fact that I am the world's biggest cynic). Part of me also rejects the idea of showing spontaneous affection on a pre-determined date, surely loving gestures should be daily… But do I practice what I preach? Not so much. So on reflection of all of this, I have decided to embrace the romance today. We’ll be wrapping up warmly with a delicious home-cooked meal, a bit of bubbly and enough chocolate to sink a small ship! Let the romance commence!

ReplyDeleteWhen you have 3 kids and a not very romantic hubby, I think it's great to have an excuse to do something together (although we do try to have regular 'date nights'). But I'm a simple girl, so sushi on the beach at lunchtime was perfect for me. xxx
Lovely post!
