New York, New York

I am so excited to be planning my first ever trip to America in September! We debated long and hard about where to go and we finally settled on New York. But Holy COW, this is one expensive city! I am no stranger for paying eye watering prices for a drink or a hotel but New York seems to be in a league of it’s own! After trawling through “hotels” with shared bathrooms and cockroaches as guests, I gave up and decided to check out hotels I knew I could never afford! Check out the beautiful Crosby Street Hotel in Soho. (Reminds me a little of The Boundary Hotel that I posted about here). I really love that each room is unique and that the hotel kitchen gets fresh produce from their own garden… in the middle of New York!

  5. very fun, i'm excited to follow your journey. i've been to NYC 2 or 3 times and love it. it is one of the most expensive cities, if not the most expensive, in the country. maybe when i move back south you can come visit and i'll show you the low country like savannah, georgia and charleston, south carolina. you're an interior designer, right? if so, you'd LOVE it

  10. Oh my darling...yes NY is VERY expensive but it is also really great. If you are staying in a hotel, be prepared for the TINY TINY size. Really, though, I think you will be sight seeing and exploring the city more than anything so it may not matter. We stayed in Jersey and it was a very short hop onto the subway for us. Have fun and post pics! :)

  11. Wow- what an amazing place! Have so much fun on your trip! NYC is inspiring and so much fun- but definitely expensive. Maybe you can try those sites where you bid and compete for prices. Sometimes, you get an amazing deal that way. Also, staying just outside the city in New Jersey might be a good option too. Best of luck!

  16. Love your blog! I used to live in NY until I got tired of being poor. However, it's an excellent place to visit. Check Jetsetter.com for hotel deals. Sometimes they have good deals on awesome NY hotels. Thanks for stopping by Belclaire House!

  19. Enjoy NYC! You know, I just stayed at the Ace Hotel. Not only is it a fantastic boutique hotel, it is also a steal by NYC standards! We got the "Large" room with unique amenities (down to a vintage Smeg fridge and a Google Chrome for our stay) and even split with a few friends, we were very comfortable. Stumptown Roasters --the best artisanal coffee -- is also right off the lobby. Great way to begin the day. Have fun!!

  24. When we sent to NYC a couple of years ago, we stay at one of the hotels near Chinatown. The room is decent with our own bathroom and cost less than $90 a night! Very worth it! Check out ABC Carpet and Home plus Jonathan Adler when you are in NY. You won't be sorry! Hope you have a fabulous trip!

  26. I really want to go to NYC, maybe after I graduate! I have to say living in Sydney probably means I won't be too shocked with prices there. I hope the AU$ is as high as it is now when I go!

  29. Yay for America! I live about 8 hours from NYC and I've never been (technically we live 30 min from NY State...). My husband has been 4 times or so - his friend lives there so he can save money by staying with him. Someday I'll get there!! Have fun!
