Not Quite The Outback, But Close

Monday, 23 February 2015

City living in Sydney is nowhere near as cramped as our lives in London but move a few kms out of the edges of the suburbs and everything grows in size. Houses begin to sprawl, roads begin to widen and the cars get mightier and meaner-looking. It feels more vast, more Australian. You begin to grasp how very big this country really is. Little sleepy villages dot the landscape, filled with preserved buildings, fascinating history and seriously laid back locals.

The Absolute Perfect

Friday, 20 February 2015

Sydney has had a week of humid temperatures and persistent sunshine. The beach bag is packed and waits at the door and the fridge is always stocked with icy cold beer (note: this is not specific to summer). It’s still very much a summer affair round these parts. So there is still time for me to find, purchase and enjoy a summer kimono. My eye caught one on honeypielivingetc and I have to say, as far as summer kimonos go, it’s flawless.

Travel Envy – Pumphouse Point, Tasmania

Wednesday, 18 February 2015

Our favourite breakfast weather lady is on a tour of Australia, starting in Tasmania. It’s the first time I have ever been excited the watch the weather first thing in the morning. A few weeks ago, the weather was broadcast from Pumphouse Point. I missed the story on account of being a total zombie before at least two cups of coffee, and well, in all honesty, I’m barely conscious until the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 10 (ok, I lie, on 11). But somebody else is a regular busy body in the morning and sent me the link to this place and we immediately agreed it was blog worthy. Located (quite literally) on Lake St Clair in Tasmania, the heritage listed Pumphouse Point is a truly special place to stay. See for yourself…

P.S – you can either stay over the lake or on the equally special shore house. Both are beautiful, both have spectacular views and both are kid-free zones. I have already started planning/saving.

The view from the TAA Seaplane. Not all pilots get a runway like this.

Or you can stay in the Shorehouse

The Wild West

Monday, 16 February 2015

We are relentlessly restless. The traveller’s blessing and a curse. The more you travel, the hungrier you become to discover more. Sometimes I lie awake at night and think of all the undiscovered land right on my new doorstop and it takes all my might to will my brain to switch off and sleep, rather than making endless travel lists and plans. Although our day jobs fund our adventures, they also hold us back from leaving on whims and disappearing for weeks so we do what we can, and use every spare weekend to make short trips around New South Wales. A few weeks ago, we headed over the mountains to the west, to a small and unassuming little town called Mudgee. It was festeringly hot during the day (with incredible electrical storms at night), there were friendly people in cowboy hats with handlebar moustaches, there was wildlife aplenty (we even saw an echidna… but sadly no living wombats), we gorged on delicious breakfasts, wine and beer, we stayed in an old church, we discovered even smaller towns and marvelled at the sheer size of the parking spaces and roads. In short, we loved it. I’ll share some more of my photos, but these are my favourites.

Oh yes, and did I mention the stars? As city slickers for the past 10 years, we never pass up an opportunity to see the stars, even if that means traipsing out into a pitch black field (possibly filled with all manner of deadly creatures) in the middle of the night to try and capture them on camera.

Bits and Pieces

Friday, 13 February 2015

It's Friday. We made it! I've probably been spending a little bit too much time on Polyvore, making wishlists and dabbling with textures and colours. It's been a sure sign that I need another outlet. So after nearly a year of dragging my feet and procrastinating like a sloth, I took a leap and enrolled in another design course. With a full time very busy day job, this is going to be challenging to say the least but I am so excited to be learning and creating again. Hopefully I'll be able to share my new-found skills on my favourite corner of the internet - stay tuned!
