The 411 on blankies…

Wednesday, 17 October 2012

It’s recently been pointed out to me that I [might be] overly attached to throw blankets. I have 2 on my sofa at home (one very warm, the other quite light), one hanging over the edge of the bed (for decorative purposes, of course) and then errrrm… one on my desk chair at work (to combat annoying a/c tundra winds). I think this level of attachment is perfectly acceptable but my work colleagues take great joy in laughing at my so-called “granny blanket”. What can I say? I just like to make myself warm and comfortable no matter where I am, even if I am at work!

What say you? Do you share my “blankie” obsession? :)

Autumn in Stockholm…

Tuesday, 16 October 2012

I think I am back from Stockholm. I say ‘I think’ as although my body is back in the UK, my mind is still firmly wandering the cobbled chilli streets of Stockholm, sipping [rather pricey] hot chocolate, soaking up the atmosphere. It was another amazing trip, and once again I found myself dragging my feet at the airport, whole-heartedly reluctant to get back on that plane to come home. I have millions of photos… yet again and I might just have to declare it “Swedish Week” here on Wishful Thinking next week as I am just brimming with clever Swedish posts. In the meantime, I will leave you with some of my favourite pictures we took of Stockholm, in all her autumnal glory! I was thankful for the thermals, the woolly socks and of course, the humble beanie because it was a balmy 7 degrees celcius most of the weekend. You won’t hear me complaining though because it meant the city looked a little something like this…

The humble beanie…

Thursday, 11 October 2012

Knowing what to pack when you go on holiday at this time of the year is tricky business! It’s not quite tundra-freeze-your-bits-off-cold, but it’s not exactly baking either. This time last year I was in New York, armed with all my winter gear only to be greeted by 30 degree heat every day – the only t-shirt I brought was done for the minute I used the subway! Since we only have one bag this time around, I decided to trust the weather report and pack for a Swedish autumn, This includes loads of scarfs, woolly socks and my wardrobe staple for winter… the humble beanie!

I’m signing off for the weekend and will be back with loads of photos to share next week!

On the light side…Part Deux!

Wednesday, 10 October 2012

I’ve been ogling light fittings… AGAIN! I guess some women find solace and comfort in chocolate and wine, I find it in beautiful light fittings (out of guilt, I should mention that I too find solace and comfort in the above, whilst browsing through light fittings)! Here’s a look at some of the choices that have had me swooning on Pinterest lately:

P.S Work has been unbelievably hectic of late so apologies for my short posts and absenteeism in blogland, normal service will resume shortly (I hope)!

Just a little something…

Just a little something I stumbled across on a site visit the other day which I thought deserved a blog post all by itself.

In another life…

Monday, 8 October 2012

On Thursday last week, I attended a ‘Stress Management’ workshop and whilst most of the advice was fairly obvious, one of the coping mechanisms suggested for dealing with stress was the need to make regular “me time”. A colleague of mine responded by saying that since she was single and lived alone, every night was “her time”. Now don’t get me wrong, I love being married and sharing a home with my husband but I couldn’t help but take a moment to imagine the freedom of living alone. Being able to watch whatever you want on tv (without having to explain why you like Real Housewives), being able to eat just a salad for dinner, taking a drive whenever you wanted, decorating the whole house pink just because you can… that kind of thing. I suspect I would love it for all of 2 minutes before it started to feel like I was missing a limb. That being said, it was when I was in this frame of mind that I found this cute bachelorette pad on Style at Home.  Bright, feminine and quirky – it’s the exactly the kind of home I would love as a single city girl!
