South Kensington Revisited

Tuesday, 6 August 2013

If you have visited London, chances are you have been to South Kensington. Home of the V&A, the Natural History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall, it’s one of my favourite areas. It’s clean, trendy and uber posh. Jordan and I often hop on a bus, and make a beeline to the V&A – this is then closely followed by grabbing a bite to eat and then heading to the side streets for a mosey around poshville, checking out how the other half live. It never fails to deliver fantastic photographs.

Sloane Ranging!

Tuesday, 23 July 2013

About 5 years ago, I landed a job that was only 3 stops away from my home on the train line. 15 minutes on the train, 40 minutes door-to-door. When you live in London, commuting is king. I used to work with someone who commuted from Portsmouth (2.5 hours away, that’s 5 hours of travel every day). 2 hour commutes are actually quite common. For suburb living, not having to use the tube is nearly unheard of. I knew I had it real gooooood! The difference a shorter and more scenic journey to work made to my life was monumental. I had time in the mornings to do the washing, prep dinner and vacuum. I had time in the evening to relax. Our office was based in a large converted house in Sloane Square and if you have been to London but have never been to Sloane Square then be prepared to get back here immediately and rectify it. The tree lined streets, the regal walk-ups and the spectacular shops will keep you busy all day. Over a year and a half ago, we moved offices - I was gutted, my bank balance was not.

Battersea Park Revisited…

Tuesday, 16 July 2013

We are now heading into our 2nd week of a heatwave and I am basking! Admittedly I did have a little grumble when we had to move our bed downstairs (down a spiral staircase) in order to get any kind of sleep on Saturday, as our bedroom feels only mildly cooler than an oven during the heat, but I’d do it again just to have the weekend of glorious sunshine that we did. On Sunday afternoon I took a little walk up to our Sainsburys which sits just outside Wandsworth Common and I could hardly believe my eyes at the sheer amount of people sandwiched together on the grass enjoying the weather. It got me thinking about how much I will miss these little oasises of green and calm in the middle of the city. Although we discovered Battersea Park only recently, it remains one of my favourite London parks. Here’s why…

See ya later London!

Tuesday, 9 July 2013

As my days in London dwindle, I have realised that I am “taking in” a lot more than usual. Instead of reaching for my Kindle as I take my seat on the bus in the mornings, I have just let myself enjoy the scenery – the hustle and bustle of Victoria station, the traffic madness of Piccadilly Circus, the majestic beauty of Berkeley Square and finally the captivating window displays on Regent Street. In between packing and stressing, Jordan and I are trying to revisit our favourite London spots to make final memories to take with us to our new home in Sydney. I wanted to do the same here on Wishful Thinking. So every week for the next couple of months, I will be re-posting some of my favourite shots of London. I hope you enjoying revisiting them as much as I did.

My Fair London – The view from 20 Fenchurch Street

Tuesday, 2 July 2013

As a blogger, I never leave the house without a camera – you just never know when you are going to stumble across something blogworthy! I have enforced the same rule upon my husband and Jordan knows he will get an earful if he goes somewhere interesting without taking a camera with him, even if said destination is a work-related meeting. So a few months ago when he told me he had an early morning meeting at the construction site of the Walkie-Talkie building in London, I made sure to shove a camera in his hand on the way out the door. He delivered the goods so I think I might keep him.

P.S: if you have ever wondered what an early morning commute in London looks like, just scroll down to the picture of the bridge. Yep, it’s that nuts.
