Reflective Photography

Tuesday 31 May 2011

This is a bit of a random post from me on a Tuesday but I have come to realise that blogging has highlighted my inability to take a decent photo! Week through week I go through my photos only to find most of them are skew, poorly lit or my personal favourite – my finger right over the lens! So I find myself increasingly in awe of people who are able to capture life’s various moments beautifully! I am hoping to buy myself a snazzy new camera and do a short photography course, and then maybe I can produce something like these photos below. Ha ha, wishful thinking I know!

One with nature…

It’s a bank holiday here in the UK today and of course the weather is vile, so I have decided to catch up on some sleep, baking (ugh), ironing (double ugh), and some blogging!

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this ‘one-with-nature’ house in Portland, Oregon designed by architect Robert Harvey Oshatz. Ok, I am not massively keen on the interiors but I really love the organic/industrial feel of it! The client’s love of music was translated in the curves and twists of the house, which are followed through in both the exterior and the interior. And of course, take a look at that view!

My Fair London – Beautiful Doors

Friday 27 May 2011

It’s Friday which means it’s time for another instalment of My Fair London! Ever since I first came to England I have been charmed by these beautiful brightly coloured doors tucked away behind neat-as-a-pin garden gates! Entrances like these are still quite a novelty to me as I grew up in South Africa where entrances tend to be further off the street and usually behind very high protected fences. I got a few puzzled looks from residents whilst snapping these so I had to semi-hide behind cars to get them (this probably attracted more attention but hey, I got there in the end).  Am I alone in my serial door stalking or are there others who frantically snap pictures of interesting doors??

Paper Dreams!

Thursday 26 May 2011

Last night I dreamt of wallpaper. Reams and reams of hand-painted expensive wallpaper slipping out of my hands and getting soaked the rain! A metaphor for something I am sure. I feel like I have been knee-deep in wallpaper lately so I am not surprised it has found some way to wriggle into my dreams. In particular, I have been looking for the beautiful floral patterns of William Morris but I keep getting distracted by some of these beauties…
